Enjoy life in the slow lane in this 100-year-old original farm cottage. Just ten minutes south of beautiful Berry and located at the end of a quiet country lane, adjacent to a 4000acre environmental farm, this delightful historic home enjoys magnificent mountain views and offers an opportunity for a country experience with peace and privacy. Beaches, bush and the beautiful Shoalhaven River are nearby.

The cottage has been lovingly restored to retain its original charm, whilst offering the convenience of a modern kitchen and luxurious bathroom. Relax in a bath big enough for two whilst enjoying unspoilt views over farmland to the escarpment, take time over the paper and a cuppa on the front verandah, or in Autumn and Winter, snuggle in front of the combustion wood heater. During the cooler months, the fire will be prepared ready for you to put a match to or lit to warm the home for your arrival. Friendly farmyard animals and a help-yourself veggie garden complete the country farm experience.

Hanigans Cottage accommodates the family with two bedrooms featuring antique double beds, and one bedroom featuring three single beds and one trundle bed. Linen and towels are provided for your stay. You can even park your car out of the weather in the large rustic garage.

The cottage offers the chance to get close to nature, with chickens, geese and sheep in the adjoining paddock. Collect fresh eggs for breakfast from the chicken coop and harvest fresh vegetables from the large veggie-garden. There is also a selection of milk-fed beef cuts in the freezer at country prices. A selection of cookbooks and food staples are stored in the kitchen for your convenience.

To entertain our young guests, there is a television and DVD player (supply your own DVDs or rent in nearby Berry or Nowra). There is also a selection of board games, jigsaws and a small library of books and magazines. A portable CD/radio means you can take music into any room.

Locality

A visit to Berry with its boutiques, antiques, eateries and craft shops will easily fill an enjoyable day and the famous Berry Country Fair at the Showgrounds is on the first Sunday in every month. There’s also a flea market at the Berry pub on the third Sunday of the month.

Boutique wineries including Coolangatta Estate, The Silos and Jasper Valley Winery are within ten minutes easy drive. Brochures for these, and other local attractions are kept at the cottage for your convenience.

The nearest patrolled beach is a ten minute drive away at Shoalhaven Heads. Beautiful Seven Mile Beach National Park is also only 10 minutes away and is well worth a visit, especially in the mornings. Fishing is available in the Shoalhaven River, just five minutes away; and nearby boat ramps are convenient for launching your fishing or water-ski boat. There is also good windsurfing at Gerroa and at Shoalhaven Heads. Stunning Jervis Bay with its pristine beaches and national park are 30 minutes south.

Bushwalking trails abound with varying degrees of difficulty. The 45-minute walk to Drawing Room Rocks on the Barren Ground Nature Reserve is delightful, particularly if you take a picnic. A book of local bushwalking trails is kept at the Cottage for your convenience.

How to Get There

Take the Princes Highway heading south through Berry. After you pass the Silos winery, take the fourth turn on the left into Meroo Rd (approximately 8 minutes past Berry township). Take the third left into Edwards Ave. Follow Edwards Ave all the way along, and turn left at the end into Hanigans Lane. Hanigans Cottage is the last property on the left.
