Kentisbury Country House is a luxurious country retreat in the heart of Tasmania. An ideal base for exploring the iconic Cradle Mountain & Lake St. Clair National Park. Lake Barrington, which is regularly stocked with salmon and trout, can be glimpsed from the property. Sheffield "Town of Murals" is a short, scenic drive away, with fantastic views of the majestic Mount Roland around every corner. Day trips include Mole Creek caves, Tasmazia and the eight different mazes, a day on the vineyard trail, stopping off for a tasting at Anvers Chocolates, Ashgrove Cheese, Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm and the salmon ponds near Deloraine.
The house is tastefully decorated in the European style with a fully equipped kitchen for you to cook in and enjoy Tasmania's delicious fresh produce. A beautiful, relaxing retreat, perfect for romantic couples or a group of up to eight friends.

Locality

Kentisbury Country House is located near Sheffield, "The outdoor art gallery", famous for its murals. Cradle Mountain & Lake St. Clair National Park is the most popular destination for our guests. Lake Barrington is stocked with trout and salmon regularly for a spot of fishing, we have a couple of rods if you are keen or take a look at the International Rowing Course & sample the local wine at Lake Barrington Vineyard. Mole Creek Caves are another great attraction to our guests, as is Tasmazia, the largest maze complex in the southern hemisphere.The property is just round the corner from No Where Else, down the road from Promised Land and Paradise isn't quite as nice as Kentish Park.

Property

Kentisbury Country House is exclusively yours to enjoy. Featuring 3 large bedrooms and a large bathroom upstairs with a claw-foot bath. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a dining area with seating for eight. The living room opens out to a sun room. A stunning rotunda room is connected to the main house and is perfect for a second living area. A sunny deck with barbeque and chiminea make a perfect outdoor eating area.
A second bathroom with laundry is located downstairs. The house sits tranquilly on five acres of farmland, with peaceful views from every window.

Kentisbury Country House is proud to feature selected Tasmanian Artists and Crafts persons. We have carefully selected paintings, photography and timber items as part of our decor and most are available for purchase. We take no commission from the artisans. Our nearest town is Sheffield "Town of Murals" a thriving artistic community, hosting the annual mural competition, Muralfest. There are many shops and galleries in the town, including Artetude, with incredible glass marbles for sale and also demonstrations available. The Working Art Space is an artists collective featuring many mediums with local and travelling exhibitions, also located in Sheffield.

Kentisbury Country House is alive with the sound of birdsong. We have many bird species on the property, 43 different species were counted over two days by a guest in 2009. The property is located in a farmland valley with native bushland on the hills on either side, making it an ideal habitat for all types of birds.

Kentisbury Country house is ideally situated to explore Cradle Mountain Lake Sinclair National Park. The national park is a beautiful forty minute drive. Mount Roland is also an excellent walking or hiking experience or perhaps try the three mountains, Mount Roland, Mount Van Dyke and Mount Claude. There are many short walks to suit all levels of fitness in the Kentish area.

Eco-friendly

Building designed along eco-lines, Building made from ecologically friendly materials, Bio-cycle or equivalent waste system., Bio-diverse setting, Recycling facilities available.

Kentisbury Country House was built with solar passivity in mind from its northern orientation to heat the house and reduce lighting costs in winter, through to the windows being strategically placed to create an air current to cool the house in summer, making air conditioning unnecessary. The house has double masonry insulated walls to retain heat during winter and remain cool in summer. The timber floors and ceilings are all plantation grown cypress, leaving our native trees in the forest where they belong. We are currently in the process of having our grid connected solar panels installed and hope to become power independent. The majority of our furniture is antique or vintage, an excellent way to recycle. Our linen is organic cotton and our guest amenities are also organic. We have an organic fruit vegetable garden for our guests to use seasonally. We use eco friendly cleaning products and recycle as much waste as possible including all food scraps.

Seven Sheds micro brewery in Railton is also an experience not to be missed.

Tasmania is a magical winter holiday, Cradle Mountain is at its very best when it snows. Our property experiences the occasional snow fall and is picture postcard perfect. After a day of hiking in the snow on Cradle Mountain or Mount Roland, our guests enjoy coming home to our outdoor chiminea fireplace and a winter barbeque. To round off the day, have a long hot soak in our antique bathtub with a glass of mulled wine.
