Here you have it all. A stunning contemporary make-over, beaches nearby. Or relax on the deck and enjoy the tall forest setting. For its environmental values, the Treehouse was a State finalist in the Take a Break 2009 awards.

Need a break from the kids? They can have their own space downstairs while you enjoy the refinements of the upstairs level. To chill out on a hot day, flick on the air-con and check out the HD TV in the living room.

When your dogs want to Take a Break from playing in the back yard (securely fenced up to a meter), take them for a walk along the beach. No problem! The northern section of South Durras beach, beginning 100m north of Durras
Drive bridge up to the shore-bird protection zone is available off-leash 24 hours a day, all year round!

We have a large kennel set up in the dog enclosure, although we are happy for small dogs to sleep inside, in their doggie baskets.

It's about a 7-minute walk to Cookies Beach for fun with the kids, or otherwise it's a pleasant ten-minute stroll to the northern part of South Durras beach.

And for a break from all that relaxation, Batemans Bay, just 15 minutes away, has a good shopping centre, cinema, and some good restaurants looking out on the Clyde estuary.

Locality

From the moment you turn off the highway and start driving through the tall coastal forest, you know you have arrived somewhere special - it's the Murramarang National Park. And Durras Lake, on the left as you approach the village, is recognised as one of the few remaining pristine coastal lakes in New South Wales. Walks along the lake's shores give you a chance to experience this area.

For a change of pace, you can explore the more civilised pleasures that Durras offers. The Forest Gallery offers a fine range of local crafts, woodwork and paintings, all to be enjoyed over coffee, lunch or a morning tea, while the Muuramarang Resort has a restaurant, bar and poolside meals.

The house is located on an elevated 1000 meter block of substantially pristine coastal woodland featuring a canopy of spotted gums and an under-storey dominated by the local burrawangs or cycads.

As Durras is located in a highly sensitive ecological region, there are few signs of development. Water is provided by rainwater tanks, and we employ a septic system and greywater recycling.

This doesn't mean you need to give up your creature comforts, though. With a comprehensive make-over completed, the property features a stylish and well-equipped kitchen, polished wood floors, an extensive deck overlooking the forest setting, and comfortable beds throughout.

Property

The property is on two levels. You have the option to take the upper level only, or both upper and lower levels. To protect your privacy, if you choose to take just the upper level, we will leave the lower level unoccupied for the duration of your stay.

Upper Level
This is the main part of the house and it comprises two generous bedrooms with views out to the surrounding tall coastal forest. The main bedroom has a queen bed, while the second bedroom has two singles. On this level you have a designer kitchen and bathroom, a dining area, and a spacious living area with HD TV and air conditioning. Four sets of sliding doors lead out to a deck which spans the length of the living areas - the ideal place for some barbecueing, or you can just relax with a book and a glass of wine on one of the banana lounges.

Lower Level
Teenage kids or another couple? Let them have their own space downstairs. This area has separate external access, and it features one bedroom with a double and a single bed, a bathroom/laundry with shower, and separate toilet. A pleasant living room with two comfortable lounges, a TV and DVD player, looks out onto the lower garden.

Accommodation rates
The "Rooms and rates" section below sets out the pricing for the upper level only. If you want to take both upper and lower levels, simply add $40 per night to the rates quoted. For school term holidays add $20 per night.

All beds are provided with linen, mattress protectors, high quality doonas and pillows. You just need to bring bath-towels and beach towels.

Our cleaners work overtime to ensure that you will find the house spotlessly clean on arrival, including a clean BBQ and deck free of leaves.

Pet friendly

Small dogs (less than 11 kg) are permitted, Medium dogs (11 kg to less than 34 kg) are permitted, Large dogs (34 kg or heavier) are permitted, Pets are permitted inside, Secure, fully fenced running area, Food and water bowls provided, Bedding/sleeping area provided.

We have a kennel set up in the enclosed dog area, which is fenced to 1 meter. We can’t allow large dogs into the house as we have high-quality furnishings, polished floor etc.

However, if you have small inside dogs and a doggie basket, your dogs may come in and sleep inside. However, we don’t allow dogs into the bedrooms or onto the furniture. Please keep the bedroom doors closed if your small dogs are inside. Apart from protecting the soft furnishings we are mindful of the occasional guests with allergies.

You might like to think about giving your dog some tick medicine 3 days ahead of your visit (Frontline is good).

Taking dogs for a walk at Durras -

The north Durras beach is available for dogs to run off-leash 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The sign at the entrance doesn’t reflect that at the moment, but one of these days the council will get around to changing it.

When you arrive at the house, you will see the guest book, which has detailed directions for walking to the north Durras beach (it’s a pleasant 10-minute walk)

Please note however, that while most of our guests have been great with their dogs – not leaving them alone and frightened in a strange place, and keeping them out of bedrooms and off beds and furniture - we have had too many instances of guests not doing the right thing either by their dogs or by the neighbours, who have a right to peace and quiet. A major condition relating to dogs is that you do not leave them barking incessantly. Thank you for your understanding.
