Cottage, Holiday house


We invite you to share our original mill house, located in the Dwellingup Heritage Precinct. Dwellingup is a small town set in the jarrah forest, 100 km from Perth. The mill house has been renovated so that you will be cosy and comfortable during your stay. The extensive, well-maintained gardens surrounding the cottage are glorious, and filled with bird life.

The comfortable lounge room has a slow-combustion wood burning fire place and reverse cycle air-conditioning. The well-stocked kitchen has all the appliances and crockery you will need if you choose to eat in. There are three bedrooms: the main bedroom has a queen bed; the second bedroom has two single beds; the small third bedroom has a double bed. All three bedrooms are made up with Sheridan bed linen and warm quilts and blankets. In the bathroom, there is continuous hot water for your bath or shower. There is a large paved undercover area at the back of the cottage, with a gas barbecue and outdoor dining setting.

Please note that NO SMOKING is permitted, and NO PETS are allowed.
There is no extra charge for cleaning, or for linen and bedding.

Check-in is from 2.00pm, and check-out is by 11.00am.

Locality


Dwellingup is less than an hour and a half drive south of Perth and is set among lovely jarrah forest. There is plenty to do and see in the area. The Hotham Valley steam train comes to Dwellingup, and there is a steam train ride into the forest. The Bibbulmun Track passes through, as does the Munda Biddi cycle trail. The Murray River and Lane Poole Reserve are 10 minutes away by car. There is a lovely cafe in town, as well as several wineries and orchards nearby. The Forest Heritage Centre and the School of Fine Wood gallery are well worth a visit. The Visitor Centre has information about walking, cycling and canoeing in the area, and a fascinating display of photographs and memorabilia from the disastrous bushfire of 1961. Mountain biking and canoeing equipment are available for hire in Dwellingup.

This is a large (approximately 2000 square metres), private, attractive corner property, with well-maintained beautiful gardens. The cottage is an original mill house, apparently dating from the 1910s. It has been renovated and redecorated to provide very comfortable modern living. It is located near the edge of town, overlooking the State Forest, yet an easy walk from the centre of Dwellingup.

We have many different birds that visit our garden (including blue wrens, endangered red-tail black cockatoos, robins, parrots, rosellas, bronze-wing pigeons, kookaburras, New Holland honeyeaters), and the nearby bush is alive with bird life.

Bushwalking & wilderness

The jarrah forest provides an ideal bush-walking environment. You can often see kangaroos and bobtail goannas, as well as plenty of wildflowers in season. We are located close to the long-distance Bibbulmun Track, as well as the Munda Biddi cycle trail. Our cottage is 50 metres from the State Forest surrounding Dwellingup. You can wander at will through the forest, or the Visitor's Centre provides maps and guides to local walks and cycle rides.

Canoeing & Kayaking


Canoe and/or Kayak facilities available nearby, Guests welcome to bring their own canoe/kayak.

Our cottage is 10 minutes drive from Lane Poole Reserve, which has the Murray River flowing through it. In winter, there is white-water rafting and kayaking, whilst in summer there are serene pools in which to paddle. Canoes can be hired from Dwellingup Adventures, and they can also arrange canoeing trips if required.

Family Friendly

There is a lovely garden with lawn for children to explore and run about on. We have some board games and DVDs for young children, for older children, as well as for adults. Please note: there is no PlayStation or Nintendo.

3 bedroom mill house is a small, historic weatherboard cottage nestled in a large, lovely garden with lots of private nooks. Feel peaceful and secluded on the edge of town in your own private cottage. In winter, snuggle on the large, comfortable sofa in front of the cosy log fire. Cook your own romantic dinner to eat at home by candlelight, or stroll into town to eat at the nearby restaurant or local pub.

The mill house is a wonderful place for a cosy and relaxing or an invigorating and energetic winter holiday. If you just want to relax, a gentle stroll through the bush or to the local galleries and shops might be as far as you venture. Within a short drive, there are a couple of wineries and a cidery to visit. For the more energetic, the nearby Murray River has thrilling white-water kayaking and rafting after winter rains. The forest is alive with flowers and birds, making bush walking a popular activity in the cooler weather. Mountain bike riding is another very popular activity, with competitive downhill cycling an important event in the Dwellingup calendar. In the evening, a warm bath and then relaxing in front of the wood fire with a glass of wine or a hot drink is a real treat.
